What These Preparations Have in Common
The preparations on this page share several characteristics that set them apart from standard compounding categories and make the choice of pharmacy more consequential.
Most are not commercially available. Synapsin, Low Dose Naltrexone, Sermorelin, Pracasil-based combinations, and hormone pellets do not exist as commercial drug products. The compounding pharmacy is the only source, which means the quality of what your patient receives is entirely determined by the quality of the pharmacy you choose.
Several require sterile compounding infrastructure. Injectable NAD+, Sermorelin, Injectable Lipo-B, and hormone pellets are all sterile preparations. They require an ISO-classified cleanroom, compliance with USP <797> standards. Sterile preparations are independently tested for sterility and endotoxins according to current USP guidelines. Most compounding pharmacies are not equipped for this. Are trending compounded preparations FDA-approved?
Most trending compounded preparations are not FDA-approved, either because they do not exist as commercial products (Synapsin, Pracasil-based combinations, hormone pellets) or because the compounded form differs from any commercially approved product. GLP-1 compounding carries its own regulatory framework tied to FDA shortage determinations. Each preparation’s regulatory status is covered on its individual page. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness, or quality prior to dispensing.
